Our Story

Be Essential All-Natural Body Care was born out of equal parts curiosity, inspiration, and a desire to impact our local community. Yes, we know, all founders want to change the world. But why not create a product that is better for our bodies, our world, and our community? 

We are driven by our values of minimalism, inspiration, sustainability, and philanthropy. 

Minimalism

The spark that led to our brand was when founder Jeffrey David Harvey (a musician-turned aromatherapy specialist), began to wonder why so many natural body care products on the market today contain so many ingredients. He noticed the health food world undergoing a transformative movement focusing on simple, organic, and minimal ingredients, so why not the skin and body care industry? Why do so many “natural” products still contain copious amounts of ingredients that are hard to pronounce?  Harvey and our small team set out to fix that. 

The end result is Be Essential All-Natural Body Care. Fresh, clean, gender-neutral scents that promote wellness of the body, mind, and spirit. Hand-crafted in Long Beach, California. Aromatherapy body care designed to celebrate you, because you are essential. 

Inspiration

The inspiration for our synergy blends came by way of the dynamic and diverse nature elements of California. The scents you’d encounter on a hike next to the the Pacific Ocean, or out exploring the Mojave desert. The inspiration for our look came by way of our close friend Jim Button, an Emmy-award winning graphic designer whose unique label creations are an homage to the California nature that inspires us daily.

Be Essential products don’t look like any other natural deodorants on the market. We are proud to stand out and look like something that could sit next to your record collection, as easily as it could sit on your skin care shelf.

Sustainability 

Every Be Essential product is meticulously handcrafted in small batches in our beautiful Long Beach, California studio. Our mindful formulations are a tribute to the beauty and wonder found in California's diverse landscapes. We carefully source as many organic ingredients as possible, crafting products with purpose, to bring you the highest quality aromatherapeutic experience possible. Our goal is to redefine the body and skin care routine.

Our deep connection to nature goes beyond ingredients, it also extends to our commitment to sustainability. We believe in treading lightly on the Earth, and that's why our packaging is thoughtfully chosen to minimize environmental impact. Every Be Essential product is housed in 100% compostable or recyclable packaging to help protect and conserve this planet we call home. We see this as creating a harmonious relationship between self-care and environmental care.

Philanthropy 

We are also very passionate about giving back to our community. Two percent of each product sold goes directly to local non-profits, starting with Precious Lamb Preschool, an early childhood education center in Long Beach, California that serves children ages 18 months - 5 years who are experiencing homelessness.

Our founder is not only a supporter of Precious Lamb, he’s a former teacher and a current volunteer with the organization.

Purpose

At Be Essential, we believe in the transformative benefits of aromatherapy for the body, mind, and spirit. Our mission is to share these benefits with you through our thoughtfully curated body care line. Our products will always be free of aluminum, parabens, and fillers. Our products will always be made with only the minimal amount of all-natural, effective ingredients. Our hope is to bring a little Southern California sunshine to every body we serve.
